NORMAN, Okla. — No. 16 Vanderbilt saw its 10-match win streak snapped by No. 14 Oklahoma on Sunday.
For just the third time in 13 matches, the Dores dropped the doubles point. Vandy’s No. 1 duo, No. 9-ranked senior Célia-Belle Mohr and freshman Sophia Webster, notched the lone doubles win for the Dores. The pair extend their win streak to seven.
No. 44 Mohr evened the match 1-1 after cruising past No. 34 Alina Shcherbinina 6-4, 6-3. It is Mohr’s fifth ranked singles victory of the season and second consecutive after downing No. 55 Carolina Gomez of Arkansas on Friday. Oklahoma struck back with wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Freshman Trinetra Vijayakumar erased a first set loss against Ava Catanzarite, taking set two 6-1 and clinching the comeback with a 6-2 third. Vijayakumar’s victory ends a two-match singles skid. The Sooners sealed the contest 4-2 after a comeback effort from Webster at No. 6 singles fell just short: No. 98 Gloriana Nahum fended off the freshman for a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 clinch.
No. 119 Valeria Ray maintains her singles win streak after her match against No. 17 Julia Garcia Ruiz was unfinished. The sophomore overcame multiple deficits in the first set to take the opener 7-6 (4). Garcia Ruiz claimed the second set after a 40-40 point win up 5-4 in the frame. Ray remains five away from the program record for consecutive singles wins.
